A representative of the US NRC visited our Faculty

David A. Wright commissioner of the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission and his colleagues visited the Faculty of Physics of the University of Warsaw. Visitors from the USA met with representatives of the University's authorities, dean authorities and faculty researchers, and David A. Wright gave a lecture as part of the ‘Ask a Physicist’ series.
This past Monday, 4 November 2024, David A. Wright, commissioner of the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), visited the Faculty of Physics of the University of Warsaw with a delegation. Prior to this role, he was the owner and president of Wright Directions, LLC, a consulting firm specialising in policy and communications strategies in the energy and water sectors. He served as President of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) from 2011-2012, engaging on key energy regulatory issues in the US. He also served on the Advisory Board of the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). During his visit to our Faculty, commissioner Wright gave a lecture in the ‘Ask the Physicist’ series entitled: ‘Nuclear Regulatory Commission - Who We Are and What We Do’.
The delegation from the USA met with representatives of the University authorities, dean's authorities, faculty researchers and representatives of the National Atomic Energy Agency. The meeting was attended by UW Vice-Rector for Research Prof. Zygmunt Lalak, Dean of the Faculty of Physics UW Prof. Wojciech Satuła, Vice-Dean for Financial Matters of the Faculty of Physics UW Prof. Marek Karny, Vice-Dean for Student Affairs of the Faculty of Physics UW Prof. Krzysztof Turzyński, Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry UW Prof. Sławomir Sęk, Vice-Dean for Student Affairs of the Faculty of Chemistry UW Prof. Maciej Chotkowski, director of the Heavy Ion Laboratory UW Dr Paweł Napiorkowski, President of the National Atomic Energy Agency Andrzej Głowacki, director of the Office of Strategic Policies and International Cooperation of the National Atomic Energy Agency Iga Pocztarek-Tofil, prof. Agnieszka Korgul, supervisor of the nuclear energy field of study at our Faculty, Prof Andrzej Wysmołek researcher from the Faculty of Physics UW and Prof Ki Sig Kang from the Korean KEPCO International Nuclear Graduate School (KINGS), who is a guest lecturer at FUW as part of the Nuclear Collaboration Center (NCC) nuclear energy training centre, established at our Faculty in collaboration with the UW Faculty of Oriental Studies and the UW Faculty of Chemistry.
The guests from the USA listened to a presentation about the Faculty and the studies conducted at FUW, and had a tour of the Faculty, including a visit to the MakerSpace@UW.
