Rethinking Holography: Genesis and Evolution of Coded Aperture Correlation Holography
Coded aperture correlation holography (COACH) was introduced in 2016 through the convergence of two research areas: coded aperture imaging and incoherent digital holography, establishing a new pathway for holographic imaging without two-beam interference. Over the past decade, COACH and its extension, Interferenceless COACH (I-COACH), have significantly reshaped the landscape of computational imaging and digital holography.
In this talk, I will present the origins and development of COACH and I-COACH, and discuss the key principles underlying these techniques, including aperture engineering, advanced optical manufacturing, and computational reconstruction algorithms. I will further highlight emerging capabilities enabled by these approaches that are difficult or impossible to achieve with conventional imaging methods, such as multidimensional imaging, super-resolution microscopy, and endoscopic imaging, as well as the decoupling of traditionally interdependent imaging characteristics.
