Polish Returns at the Faculty of Physics UW

2025-07-17

The Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) has announced the results of the 8th edition of the Polish Returns programme. This year, 11 outstanding scientists will return to Poland to continue their research after working abroad. Four of them will carry out their projects at the Faculty of Physics UW.

The Polish Returns programme by NAWA supports Polish researchers who have pursued their academic careers outside the country, offering them the opportunity to continue their work at Polish universities and research institutes. In the 8th edition, 11 projects received funding, five of which will be conducted at the University of Warsaw — including four at our Faculty.

The following projects will be carried out at FUW:

Prof. Dominika Zgid will lead a research group implementing an ERC Advanced Grant project titled "Modelling of optically excited states in periodic and molecular systems with the self-consistent Green’s function methods";

Dr Monika Piersa-Siłkowska will conduct a project titled "Experimental study of exotic neutron-rich atomic nuclei";

Dr Tomasz Skóra will carry out the project "From coarse grains to atoms and back: a rigorous multiscale modeling approach to diffusion under macromolecular crowding";

Dr Jonasz Słomka will implement the project "Using cell colliders to identify super-spreading of bacterial resistance."

We warmly congratulate all the researchers and wish them great success in their scientific endeavors.

The total funding granted by NAWA in this edition of the programme exceeds PLN 18 million.
