Warsaw Becomes the Capital of High Magnetic Fields

The Magnetic Fields in Materials Research workshop and the annual EMFL User Meeting, held on 29–30 June 2026 at the Faculty of Physics of the University of Warsaw, brought together researchers from Poland and across Europe. The meetings provided an opportunity to present the latest research findings, exchange experience, and establish collaborations within the European Magnetic Field Laboratory (EMFL).

The University of Warsaw is a member of the European Magnetic Field Laboratory (EMFL), an international research infrastructure that provides scientists with access to extremely high magnetic fields. These fields are among the key tools used in condensed matter research, making it possible to study and modify the properties of matter. The University’s participation in EMFL confirms its research potential and highlights the importance of modern infrastructure for the advancement of science.

The mission of EMFL is not only to provide access to unique research infrastructure, but also to integrate the scientific community and disseminate research results. These goals were reflected in two events held on 29–30 June 2026 at the Faculty of Physics of the University of Warsaw.

The second workshop in the *Magnetic Fields in Materials Research* series brought together researchers representing Polish scientific institutions. The annual EMFL User Meeting, which gathers users of the infrastructure from across Europe, returned to Warsaw after seven years, coinciding with Poland’s return to the EMFL structures.

The programme of both events included 24 lectures devoted to the latest research findings obtained using EMFL infrastructure. Discussions, the exchange of experience, and conversations about new research initiatives and opportunities for collaboration were also an important part of the meetings. They showed that the EMFL user community is active, diverse, and open to developing international scientific projects.
