SciPost Founder to Speak at the Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw
2025-11-13
On November 17, 2025 (Monday) at 12:30 p.m., in room 0.03a at the Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw, we will host a seminar featuring Prof. Jean-Sébastien Caux from the University of Amsterdam – a distinguished theoretical physicist and founder of the SciPost Foundation. Prof. Caux will deliver a lecture entitled: “Green, Gold, Diamond, Platinum, Rhodium etc.: navigating modern publishing business models”
The scientific publishing system is currently undergoing a profound transformation — from traditional, publisher-driven models to new forms of open access.
Founded by Prof. Caux, SciPost offers an alternative, non-commercial approach to open-access publishing, emphasizing the quality of research rather than publisher profit. During the seminar, Prof. Caux will discuss the current state of publishing system reforms, the development of SciPost, and his insights on the future of open science.
About the Speaker
Prof. Jean-Sébastien Caux is a theoretical physicist specializing in low-dimensional quantum condensed matter at the University of Amsterdam. His research focuses on the use of non-perturbative theoretical methods to study strongly correlated quantum systems, appearing in problems of magnetism, cold atoms, and quantum nanostructures.
After earning his undergraduate degree in Montreal, he completed his PhD at the University of Oxford (1998). Following a postdoctoral fellowship in Vancouver, he returned to Oxford as a member of All Souls College, and since 2003 has been a professor at the University of Amsterdam.
He is a recipient of prestigious NWO Vici and ERC Advanced grants, and the founder and president of the SciPost Foundation, a non-profit organization operating the open-access platform scipost.org and journals such as SciPost Physics. Prof. Caux is a long-time advocate of open access to scientific knowledge and promotes transparent, community-driven models of scholarly communication.
All interested participants are warmly invited to attend.
