Strong interactions in undoped metallic single wall carbon nanotubes
We derive an effective low energy theory for metallic single wall carbon nanotubes. The presence of the badly screened Coulomb interaction between electrons gives a strong enhancement of one-dimensional Luttinger Liquid effects, and in the half-filled (undoped) case drives the ground state of the system to a spin-liquid Mott-Insulating state. In zig-zag nanotubes, there is also an explicit dimerization in the interactions, which can drive the system to a quauntum phase transition with SU(2)_1 quantum symmetry.
