Stokesian dynamics: fast multipole method for computer simulations
Outlined is the fast multipole method to compute hydrodynamic interactions between spheres immersed in a low-Reynolds-number fluid flow. The principles underlying the method (displacement of propagators connecting the centres of two spheres and multilevel summation of interactions) are described. It is emphasized that, as in the standard multipole method, the accuracy may be easily controlled by changing multipole truncation orders.
