The NN weak interaction and low energy neutrons
The quark-quark weak interaction of u and d quarks in the strongly interacting regime of QCD is poorly understood. These interactions lead to parity violation in the nucleon-nucleon interaction. I will describe some recent theoretical work on the weak NN interaction using effective field theory and describe a program of measurements that are now possible using low energy neutrons. I will give two examples: parity violation in polarized neutron capture on protons and neutron spin rotation in 4He.
