Calcium and Regulation of Cell Motility
Calcium, one of the most abundant elements, plays a key regulatory role in cell function through its divalent ion form (Ca²⁺). This seminar will explore how calcium ions influence cell migration and cytoskeletal dynamics, focusing on actomyosin contractility and the regulatory role of extracellular nucleotides. It will cover the signaling pathways controlling myosin light chain activity, the role of small GTPases, and the diversity of nucleotide receptors. Particular attention will be given to store-operated calcium entry (SOCE) and its impact on cellular calcium homeostasis.
