I will review the phenomenology of the Lifshitz critical point, i.e. a point on the phase diagram, where a disordered thermodynamic phase, a spatially homogeneous ordered phase, and a modulated ordered phase meet. I will present an application of the functional renormalization group framework to estimate the vales of the corresponding critical indices.
