Effective field theory approach to the ferromagnetic phase transition in the gas of fermions
I will summarize our effective quantum field theory based, computations of the free energy of the gas of spin-1/2 fermions interacting through a short-range spin-independent potential. The recent results can be used to study the impact that higher-order corrections can have on the characteristics of a phase transition to the ordered phase, namely on the emergence of itinerant ferromagnetism. I will also comment on the potential implication of our results for the attempts to discover itinerant ferromagetism of cold gases of fermionic atoms by exploiting physics of the Feshbach resonance.
