Status of the LUXE experiment and Warsaw contribution to ECAL-P
The Laser Und XFEL Experiment (LUXE), in planning at DESY Hamburg, is intended to study quantum electrodynamics (QED) in strong electromagnetic fields, the transition from perturbative to non-perturbative regime in particular. The experiment will make precision measurements of the photon and positron rates in collisions between a high-intensity laser pulse and the 16.5 GeV electron beam of the European XFEL, or the high-energy secondary photons it produces. After an overview of the physics case and LUXE experiment concept, I will focus on the activities of the Warsaw LUXE group contributing to the construction of the highly compact positron calorimeter for LUXE, ECAL-P. Design concept and first results from the beam tests of the ECAL-P prototype will be presented.
