RNA Sequence Design

RNA became a household name during the COVID-19 pandemic withthe rapid development of mRNA vaccines. It is a versatile biopolymerthat, in living cells, encodes genetic information, catalyzes severalimportant chemical reactions, and performs a wide range of regulatoryfunctions. Predicting RNA structure is an interesting and challengingcomputational problem, complicated by the relative scarcity of knownthree-dimensional RNA structures compared with those of proteins. I willbriefly describe current approaches to RNA secondary structureprediction and present our recent approach to RNA sequence design:choosing a nucleotide sequence that will fold into a desired structure.
Please note that the seminar time and room have changed. The seminar will start at 13:15 and will last approximately one hour (until 14:15). The seminar will be held in hybrid mode, Room B0.03 (Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw, Pasteura 5) and online via Zoom.
