What is K-theory and what is it good for?
This talk will consist of four points :1. The basic definition of K-theory2. A brief history of K-theory3. Algebraic versus topological K-theory4. The unity of K-theoryThe talk is intended for non-specialists. The only pre-requisite is a general mathematical background. All basic definitions will be carefully and explicitly stated.
