Highlights from VIPERS: on the way to establish the nature of dark energy

The "VIMOS Public Extragalactic Redshift Survey" (VIPERS) is an ongoing ESO Large Program whose aim is to map in detail the spatial distribution of normal galaxies in the z~1 Universe on an unprecedented sky area of 24 square degrees. VIPERS is using VIMOS spectrograph at the VLT and is going to measure 100,000 redshifts for galaxies with red magnitude I(AB) brighter than 22.5. The project started in 2009. Its scientific investigations focus, among others, on measurements of large-scale structure and cosmological parameters at an epoch when the Universe was about half its current age. One of the main goals is the test of the nature ofso-called "dark energy" through the comparison of the measurement of galaxy clustering and redshift distortions at z~1 and in the localUniverse.
