Rotational and vibrational states in heavy nuclei described within the energy density functional methods
Nuclear ground and collective states can be described by using the same nuclear energy density functional (EDF). In this talk, I will review a few recent EDF studies of nuclear properties performed by the theory group at the University of Jyväskylä. Puzzling features of recent precise Penning-trap mass measurements beyond 132Sn will be discussed in the context of state-of-the-art EDF calculations. Tilted-axis cranking determination of ultra-high-spin triaxial rotational bands will show how the connection between experimental and theoretical results should be made. Detailed spectroscopy of rotational bands in superheavy nuclei will be discussed. Finally, the problem of incompressibility of finite nuclei will be addressed within modern QRPA calculations.
