Aerosol characterization in the framework of EARLINET
The European Aerosol Research Lidar Network (EARLINET) provides a unique infrastructure for ground-based aerosol remote sensing. From exploitation of multi-wavelength, polarimetric Raman lidar measurements, optical properties of aerosol can be derived in a quantitative way. Intensive parameters such as depolarization ratios, Angström exponents and lidar ratios can be used to distinguish between different aerosol types. Examples are presented covering also special events as the Eyjafjallajökull eruption.
