Casimir Friction

The Casimir Force – long distance electromagnetic attraction between electrically neutral objects is considered one of the most direct macroscopic manifestations of the quantum properties of the electromagnetic vacuum. The subject of the seminar will be a related phenomenon of Casimir Friction – dissipative force acting on objects moving through the quantum fluctuations of the electromagnetic field. I will restrict myself to the case of an atom moving parallel to flat surface of continuous medium.
