James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is a 6.5 m diameter, segmented, deployable telescope for cryogenic IR space astronomy (~40 K), which will be launched in 2018. It is the result of an international collaboration between NASA, ESA and CSA.The observatory will study the first galaxies of the early Universe, the birth of stars and protoplanetary systems as well as exoplanets.The presentation will describe history, technical challenges, goals and current status of the project.
