Studies of astrophysically-relevant nuclei around 78Ni
The study of decay properties of nuclei far away from the valley of beta stability contributes vital information for probing and validating nuclear models in exotic nuclear systems. These models are then used to provide information of nuclear properties of those nuclei that are too exotic to be measured and yet crucial for calculations, e.g., of the path followed by the astrophysical r-process. In this context, the decay properties of nuclei in the 78Ni region are important, since the r-process is predicted to take off close to it. A review of decay properties of very neutron-rich nuclei in the region around 78Ni studied at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory at Michigan State University and at the Holifield Radioactive Beam Facility at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the USA will be given.
