Joint inversion of surface wave dispersion and receiver functions - the study of deep structure of East European Craton margin
A simultaneous inversion of Rayleigh wave phase velocity dispersion and P receiver function has been applied to investigate the south-western margin of the East European Craton (EEC) in Poland. This method proved to be a natural approach in studying the lithosphere-asthenosphere boundary (LAB) – it's sensitive to both absolute velocities and sharp discontinuities and thus provides a better vertical resolution compared to surface wave data alone. The presentation aims to explain the whole reasoning behind the linearized and stochastic (Monte Carlo) inversion procedure, and to discuss the final shear wave velocity models down to 250 km depth beneath the ''13 BB Star” array.
