Particle-Flow reconstruction and global event description with the CMS detector at LHC

Particle-Flow reconstruction aims to reconstruct and identify each final state particle produced in each collision. Such list of particles provides a global event description. This allows to improve performance of jets, missing transverse momentum, hadronic tau reconstruction, electron and muon identification compared to a traditional sub-detector based approach. In this seminar, I will present basics of the Particle-Flow approach, requirements for detector design posed by the this approach, issues solved in a way to make it works at hadron collider environment, and finally achieved performance.
