Inflation, the Higgs boson and domain walls
The discovery of the Higgs boson at the LHC extended our knowledge on the behaviour of the Standard Model. The measurement of the mass of the new particle enabled the quantitative study of the scalar potential of the Standard Model. Understanding of implications of the existence of the scalar boson for both: particle physics and cosmology has been the goal of many efforts in recent years.During the seminar, I will show what connects these three: inflationary models, the Higgs boson and comological domain walls. Weaknesses of the standard cosmology and advantages of inflation will be discussed. The current status of the Higgs physics will be briefly presented. Furthermore, I will describe the role of domain walls in cosmology. Finally, I will introduce methods used to investigate the evolution of cosmological domain walls of the Higgs field.
