Photonic analogues of spin textures: half-skyrmions and persistent spin helix in microcavities filled with liquid crystal

Photonic analogues of spin textures: half-skyrmions and persistent spin helix in microcavities filled with liquid crystalNematic liquid crystals are highly birefringent materials in which optical anisotropy direction can be easily controlled by external electric field. When incorporated inside a multimode optical resonator they bring unique possibility to tune the cavity between multiple regimes in which modes of different parities can be put into resonance. Depending on the specific regime spatial polarization textures of light transmitted through such cavity can recreate spin textures known from different branches of solid state physics. For modes of the same symmetry we can directly observe electric field textures consisting of merons, also referred as half-skyrmions, which are quasiparticles observed in thin magnetic films. When modes of opposite parity are close to resonance polarisation texture changes to persistent spin helix resembling behaviour of electrons in quantum wells with equal Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit coupling terms.UwagaSeminarium w trybie zdalnympatrz instrukcja :instrukcja: (pdf file)AttentionThe seminar in the remote modesee instruction :instruction: (pdf file)
