Towards collisional cooling of polyatomic molecule

The last decades have been intensive development of the chemistry and physics of ultracold matter, both in terms of theoretical description and experimental methods. Currently, finding effective methods of cooling neutral polyatomic molecules has become a significant challenge. One possibility is sympathetic cooling, based on cooling the pre-cooled system by interactions with ultracold atomic gas. Invaluable help in this regard is the possibly accurate quantum-chemical description of the molecular systems under consideration, including intermolecular interactions. Here, we consider a formaldehyde molecule that interacts with metal alkali and alkaline-earth metal atoms. All the results obtained in the project will be serving in further modelling sympathetic cooling of HCHO molecule.
