Since the first realization of the Bose-Einstein condensate in a weakly interacting gas, many new systems emerged with different types of interactions. In particular, creation of hybrid ion-atom systems enabled the studies of impurity physics in the strongly interacting regime. In this talk, I will discuss recent breakthrough experiment demonstrating control over the ion-atom interaction in Ba+ - Li system by means of Feshbach resonances and present the prospects for quantum simulation of strongly interacting many-body systems based on this setup.
