Seminarium Fizyki Jądra Atomowego

Since the ground-breaking discovery of the correlation between the characteristics of prompt-gamma radiation and the range of a proton beam in a phantom by Min et al., an ever-growing interest about the practical application of it to improve proton therapy has been observed. Various methods have been proposed, exploiting different features of that radiation. In my talk, I will present one of them: the SiFi-CC project, aiming to develop a Compton camera for prompt-gamma imaging. Building blocks of that device will be thin fibers made of an inorganic scintillator, with a dual readout via silicon photomultipliers. I will discuss advantages and difficulties of such an approach, and present the expected performance. I will also mention a few interesting satellite projects conceived during our work on the Compton camera
