Lifschitz tail for random Schrodinger operators with nonlocal kinetic part
I will present several results concerning the Lifschitz-tail asymptoticsfor operators of the form L=H+V, where H is a (possibly nonlocal) Levy operator and V is a random potential of either Poisson or lattice-type. We prove the existence of Lifschitz tail and establish theprecise rate of decay of the integrated density of states near thebottom of the spectrum. The results were obtained in collaboration with Kamil Kaleta (WroclawUniversity of Science and Technology).

Topological phases of quantum lattice models
Quantum lattice systems with local interactions can exhibit phases thatcannot be understood within the conventional symmetry-breaking paradigm.Examples include symmetry-protected phases, such as the Haldane phaseand certain topological insulators, as well as systems exhibitingso-called intrinsic topological order in two or more spatial dimensions.Still more exotic phenomena are possible in three dimensions. In thistalk, I will give a selective overview of these subjects, discussing thegeneral physical picture, representative models, and some approaches torigorous mathematical understanding. The talk will be expository, withno new results presented.
